Mother’s Day is a time to recognize the steady, often quiet work of caring for others. For many, mothers are the first example of what it means to nurture. They notice what others need, offer support without being asked, and create a sense of stability that carries through every stage of life. Their care is not defined by grand gestures but by consistency, attentiveness, and a deep sense of responsibility for others' well-being.

That same spirit of care can be seen in those who choose to serve as caregivers. While their roles may look different, the foundation is much the same. Each caregiver at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor pays attention to the small details, offers patience when it is needed, and provides support in ways that preserve dignity and comfort. Like mothers, they often step in quietly, meeting needs before they are spoken, creating an environment where others feel safe and valued.

There is also a shared understanding that care is not one-size-fits-all. Both mothers and caregivers learn to adapt, responding to changing needs over time. They balance practical responsibilities with emotional awareness, recognizing that true care involves both. Whether it is offering encouragement, providing reassurance, or simply being present, their work reflects a commitment that goes beyond routine tasks.

In many cases, these two roles meet in a meaningful way. Caregivers often find themselves supporting the very mothers who once spent their lives caring for others. There is a sense of continuity in that exchange, where the same qualities that defined one generation are now reflected in another. It is not a replacement, but a continuation of the same spirit of compassion and attentiveness.

This Mother’s Day and National Nurses Week, it is worth recognizing that nurturing is not limited to a single role or a single season of life. It is a quality that manifests in many forms, carried by those willing to give their time, attention, and care to others. Whether in a family or within a senior living community, that shared commitment creates environments that embody the spirit of motherhood, where people feel supported, respected, and truly cared for.

Born in Miami, Florida, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor resident Locket Lee moved with her family to Fort Lauderdale as a young child, and over the years, it became the place she truly called home. Raised in the sun-filled city, Locket grew up surrounded by family and friends, eventually graduating from high school there. She still considers Fort Lauderdale the place where her roots run deepest.

After high school, Locket followed her passion for animals all the way to Tennessee Technical College, where she studied animal science. She once dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but realized along the way that the thought of performing surgery on animals was something she just couldn’t bear. Even as her career path shifted, Locket’s love for animals only grew stronger.

She eventually built a career in the stock market—a far cry from her early dreams, but one she made her own. Life took another turn when Locket married and moved to Texas. Her memories of those four years are filled with stories of heat, growth, and big life changes.

Locket’s journey next brought her to Brinson, Georgia, where she truly made herself a home. She spent her days working in the yard, growing beautiful flowers, and restoring life to her home—one that had stood empty for quite some time before she lovingly brought it back to life.

Animals have always been a constant by Locket’s side. Over the years, she’s cared for four dogs, two cats, a hamster, and even a mouse. Her deep love for animals isn’t just reflected in the way she cares for them—it also shows in her artistry. Locket has a real talent for creating detailed charcoal drawings of her animal companions, capturing their character and spirit in each piece.

We are incredibly grateful to have Locket as part of our Legacy Village at Plantation Manor community. Her kindness, her creativity, and her love for life’s simple pleasures make every day a little brighter.

The Power of Connection: Why Senior Living Is Good for the Mind and Heart

Social connection plays a powerful role in protecting mental and emotional well-being as we age, yet it is often one of the first things to fade when seniors live alone. Changes in health, mobility or daily routine can make it harder to stay socially engaged, leading many older adults to experience isolation without realizing it. Moving into a senior living community like Legacy Village of Plantation Manor can be a meaningful step toward restoring connection, purpose and a sense of belonging as well as a means to keeping the mind sharp.

One of the greatest benefits of senior living is the built-in opportunity for daily interaction. Instead of relying on occasional visits or scheduled outings, residents are surrounded by peers and team members who become part of everyday life. Shared meals, group activities and casual conversations create natural moments of connection that help seniors feel less alone and more emotionally supported. Friendships formed often become deep and meaningful, offering comfort during both joyful and challenging moments.

Social engagement also supports mental sharpness and emotional resilience. Legacy Village of Plantation Manor offers structured programs such as musical events, games, classes and creative activities that encourage conversation and learning. These experiences help keep the mind active while providing excitement for the days ahead. For many seniors, having something to look forward to each day makes a meaningful difference in overall outlook.

For families, choosing senior living can bring peace of mind. Knowing a loved one is socially connected and emotionally supported eases concerns about loneliness and isolation. Families often notice positive changes after a move, including improved mood, increased engagement and a renewed sense of joy in their loved one’s daily life.

Ultimately, moving into a senior living community is not about giving something up. It is about gaining connection, companionship and support. By prioritizing social interaction and meaningful relationships, Legacy Village of Plantation Manor helps seniors protect their mental and emotional health while enjoying a fuller, more connected way of life.

After the busy holiday season, many seniors notice changes in energy levels, mobility or comfort, making the New Year a natural time for families to pause and consider what support will help their loved ones feel their best. New Year care focuses on thoughtful steps that nurture independence, confidence and quality of life throughout the year. For some seniors who may be feeling the effects of aging, a senior living community that emphasizes whole-person wellness, such as Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, can offer the right balance of support, connection and peace of mind for both residents and families.

One important part of New Year care is access to therapy services that help seniors maintain strength, balance and independence. Physical and occupational therapy can play a key role in improving mobility, supporting recovery and enhancing daily routines. At Legacy Village, therapy services are coordinated with care teams, making it easier for residents to participate consistently and work toward goals that support long-term wellness.

Pain management is another essential focus as seniors begin the year. Chronic pain can affect more than just physical comfort; it can also impact mood, sleep and overall quality of life. Senior living communities take a comprehensive approach to pain management, combining medical oversight, therapy, movement and comfort-focused strategies. This collaborative care helps ensure concerns are addressed early, allowing residents to remain engaged and comfortable in their daily lives.

Staying active is a powerful way for seniors to support both physical and emotional well-being. Regular movement helps maintain flexibility, strength and balance while also encouraging social connection. At Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, residents have access to a variety of opportunities to stay active, from gentle exercise classes and walking groups to wellness programs designed to meet residents where they are. These activities are thoughtfully structured to be safe, enjoyable and empowering.

Equally important to physical care is the social connection that supports mental and emotional wellbeing. Legacy Village offers daily opportunities for meaningful interaction, whether through shared meals, group activities, creative programs or simple conversations with neighbors and team members who truly know each resident. These moments of connection help reduce feelings of isolation, encourage a sense of belonging and bring joy to everyday life.

For families, knowing a loved one is supported by a compassionate team that prioritizes therapy, pain management and active living can provide lasting peace of mind. By focusing on whole-person wellness, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor help residents begin the year feeling supported, capable and connected, creating a strong foundation for health and happiness in the months ahead.

Legacy Village at Plantation Manor resident Stella “Ruth” Flowers was born on October 4, 1930, in Brooks County, Georgia, right in the middle of a lively family of ten children. As the middle child, Ruth learned early how to be patient, adaptable, and (probably) very good at sharing!

Raised by hardworking farmers, Ruth grew up knowing the value of a strong work ethic. She later put that to good use as a buyer for a department store—where she also dressed the display windows and made sure everything looked just right.

Ruth met the love of her life, John David Flowers, at a dime store. Yes, a dime store—and yes, it was love at first sight. They married at just 19 years old and went on to share a wonderful 52-year marriage. Ruth says John was the best husband, and she never doubted how deeply he loved her. Together they raised four children—three daughters and one son—and now enjoy the joy of four grandchildren.

Ruth was a devoted homemaker, an enthusiastic flower gardener, and an excellent baker. In fact, her baked goods were so good that the church always hoped she’d bring something (and she usually did!). Family camping trips were a yearly tradition, with the mountains of North Carolina holding a special place in her heart.

After their children graduated from college, Ruth and John set off on a two-month tour of the continental United States. The trip went smoothly—with just one small adventure: locking their keys in the car. Thankfully, a truckload of convicts came to the rescue and had the door open in seconds. A story she’ll never forget!

Ruth has always been very active in her Baptist church and made sure her children were raised with strong faith. She loves piano music for its simplicity and beautiful melody. Looking back on her life, Ruth says she has no regrets—she feels blessed, happy, and content. If she ever won a billion dollars, she says she’d spend it helping children and those in need.

With her loving spirit and gentle warmth, it’s no wonder everyone at Legacy wants to adopt Ruth as their grandmother. We are truly grateful to have her as part of our Legacy family.

The holiday season is often filled with family gatherings, joyful traditions and meaningful moments—but for many families caring for an aging loved one, it can also be one of the most stressful times of the year. As routines change and days get busier, meeting the needs of aging parents or grandparents can become more complex, leaving family caregivers feeling stretched thin. While many families consider senior living as a helpful next step, they often hesitate to make the transition before the holidays. Common concerns include the fear that a loved one will feel lonely or abandoned, the worry it will disrupt the season and family traditions, or bring judgment from family and friends. But for many families, waiting may actually increase stress for both seniors and caregivers rather than ease it.

In reality, moving into a senior living community before the holidays can be one of the most supportive decisions a family can make. At Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, the holidays are filled with festive events, warm social connections and compassionate team members who help residents feel at home quickly. Rather than spending the season stressed and exhausted, families can share more meaningful, quality time together—free from the pressures of caregiving tasks and safety concerns. Legacy Village encourages visits, whether it is at their community or at home for Christmas dinner. Instead of a disruption, the move often brings relief, stability and more joy to everyone involved.

The holidays can also highlight areas where a senior needs additional support: increased confusion in busy environments, difficulty navigating crowded gatherings and challenges with mobility often become more noticeable this time of year. Legacy Village at Plantation Manor is trained to meet these needs in a way that keeps the season enjoyable. For those with limited mobility, communities offer accessible events, transportation assistance, and safe, thoughtfully designed spaces—ensuring seniors can still participate in the traditions they love. For residents living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, structured activities, sensory-friendly celebrations and predictable daily routines help prevent overstimulation and confusion. These specialized supports help families worry less and give seniors a safer, more comfortable holiday environment.

Christmas-time is already hectic, and many caregivers are already juggling managing medications, preparing meals, assisting with personal care and coordinating doctor’s visits. By moving a loved one into a community before the holiday rush, caregivers gain the gift of rest. Rather than carrying the full weight alone, they can rely on a team of trained professionals who are available around the clock. This relief allows caregivers to enjoy holiday moments more fully—sharing stories over dinner, watching favorite movies together or simply being present without the pressure of caregiving.

It’s also important to remember that the transition into senior living doesn’t erase family traditions—it often enhances them. Families can decorate their loved one’s new apartment together, bring treasured holiday recipes to share or join community events designed to include residents and their families. If your family has been considering senior living but putting it off until the new year, this season may actually be the perfect time to make the move. With compassionate care, festive community life and support tailored to each resident’s needs, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor can help bring peace, comfort and joy to your loved one and to you.

Winnette Stinson’s story starts on a summer day in Thomasville, Georgia, in 1944. The Stinson home held five children—two brothers, two sisters, and Winnette herself—each finding their place in the gentle bustle of small-town life. Early on, Winnette learned the rhythms of work and family, her favorite memories rooted in mornings spent helping her father at the farmers’ market. She still fondly recalls the sights and sounds there: sunlight catching on cartons of peaches, her father’s laugh mingling with the market chatter, and her own growing sense of pride at his side.

Winnette attended Joy Business School in Thomasville, where she learned speed writing—also known as shorthand—a skill that made her remarkably quick on the keys in her first job, answering calls for doctors and lawyers. No two days were the same, and she learned to keep her composure no matter who was on the line.

But it was at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, working as a nurse’s aide, where Winnette discovered an unexpected favorite spot: the emergency room. Fast-paced and unpredictable, it was a place where she could make a difference each shift. After a brief turn through Commercial Bank, handling the tricky business of returned checks, Winnette found her professional home at Ed Chambers State Farm. There, as an insurance underwriter, she spent the rest of her career guiding neighbors through moments of uncertainty, always with a steady hand and a reassuring voice.

Home life for Winnette was every bit as full. She married Gregory Stinson in 1979, and together they built a family that would grow to include a son, a daughter, four grandchildren, and a dozen great-grandchildren. Weekends and vacations were often spent on the road—exploring the backroads of North Carolina and Tennessee, setting up camp beneath open skies, or simply enjoying a peaceful day at the beach. Gregory’s passing in 2019 closed a 42-year chapter filled with shared adventures and cherished memories.

Change came, too—as it does for everyone. Winnette spent four years living in West Virginia with her daughter before returning to the familiar rhythms of Thomasville, where the town and its routines welcomed her back like an old friend. In quieter moments, she channeled her creativity into arts and crafts, turning recyclables into treasures, and later found peace in gardening as the seasons turned.

Now, at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, Winnette’s journey has found a new setting—one that feels a little like home, and a little like the next adventure. We’re grateful to have her among us, and grateful for the story she brings to share.

Legacy Village at Plantation Manor has partnered with Viking Pure Solutions, a leader in non-toxic cleaning technologies, to bring innovative, hospital-grade cleaning and disinfecting to our community. Viking Pure installs on-site systems that generate powerful cleaning and disinfecting solutions using only salt, water, and electricity. This process creates electrolyzed water: a safe, fragrance-free, and highly effective alternative to conventional chemicals.

Unlike many commercial cleaning products, Viking Pure’s solutions are free from harmful ingredients linked to respiratory issues, endocrine disruption, and other health concerns that disproportionately affect older adults. Their disinfectant is EPA-registered as hospital grade and proven to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses, including norovirus and COVID-19, without the risks associated with harsh chemicals.

Bryan Cook, Co-Founder and President of Legacy Senior Living, states, “Our residents deserve the safest environment possible. With Viking Pure, we’re not just cleaning, we’re protecting the people who call this community home, as well as the caregivers and staff who support them every day.”

In addition to enhancing safety, Viking Pure helps us reduce our environmental footprint. We now generate unlimited quantities of solution on-site, eliminating supply chain concerns and reducing waste from plastic bottles and chemical deliveries.

“This upgrade aligns with our mission of providing compassionate care in a safe, sustainable setting. Viking Pure’s system gives us confidence that we’re doing everything we can to promote wellness, without compromise,” says Barry Ray, Co-Founder and CEO of Legacy Senior Living.

Lillie Faye King’s story begins in the quiet streets of Thomasville, where she grew up surrounded by family—her mother, father, and three brothers, including her twin, Ray. Though time has taken her oldest brother and Ray, their memories live on in the heart of this remarkable woman. Faye’s early days were spent attending Fletcherville Elementary (now Harper Elementary) and later graduating from Thomasville High School in 1963. Her thirst for learning carried her to Birdwood Junior College, now Thomas University, where she graduated in 1965.

Just days after graduation, Faye married Don King, the love of her life. Together, they’ve shared over 60 years of marriage, building a family filled with warmth and laughter. Their son Bryant, along with his wife Amy, has blessed them with two grandsons, Will and Thomas. Their daughter Julie and her husband Johnny Eaton have two sons as well—Taylor and Mason—adding to a family that spans generations.

Faye’s journey took a pause as she devoted herself to raising her children and setting a foundation for their futures. Once they were settled in school, she returned to her passion for teaching. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Valdosta State University and began shaping young minds as a third-grade teacher at Jerger Elementary in Thomasville.

Encouraged by her principal, Mrs. Lucille Burgess, Faye pursued further education while continuing to teach. Nights and summers were spent at Valdosta State as she earned her master’s degree in education, followed by a master’s in education administration. This dedication opened new doors, leading her to serve as assistant principal at McIntyre Middle School, and eventually, as principal of Jerger Elementary. She held that role with heart and grace until her retirement in 2005.

Faye’s devotion extended beyond the classroom. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, deeply rooted in Dawson Street Baptist Church. Here, she shared her gift for teaching in Sunday School, led an adult ladies class, and extended compassion through a jail ministry for women in Thomas County. Her love of music brought her voice to the church choir, where her spirit touched many. Through teaching and faith, Faye led countless souls toward hope and love.

Retirement marked the start of a new adventure. Alongside Don, Faye explored the beauty of the nation they had always called home. From the rugged peaks of Grand Teton National Park (often just called the Tetons) to the wild landscapes of Alaska and the sun-kissed shores of Hawaii, their travels spanned every state and countless national parks—Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Glacier, Yosemite, Arches National Park, and more. Along the way, Faye’s warmth and kindness forged friendships that continue to thrive, a true reflection of a life well-lived and deeply cherished.

Lillie Faye King’s story is one of love, dedication, and faith—a legacy woven into the lives she has touched and the communities she has served. Now a cherished resident of Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, her journey continues to inspire those around her, reminding us all of the power of family, service, and the joy found in every new horizon.

In addition to a Meet & Greet, Dr. Harvard will be presenting a talk titled, “Walking Victoriously Through the Long Goodbye.”

Legacy Village’s Alzheimer’s Support Services is a resource designed for family members, team members and community partners who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Dr. Harvard has led this complimentary resource since early 2024, providing that extra support to families and caregivers who are navigating the pressures of caring for a loved one with memory loss.

“For nearly 20 years, I watched as Dementia/Alzheimer’s moved from being an insignificant inconvenience to a disease that robbed the love of my life of her memory, personality and eventually contributed to her death,” states Dr. Harvard. “Determined to find a cure and keep her in my world, and sparing no expense and effort, I took her to the finest doctors and searched through all available research. Coming to grips with the futility of my approach, I developed a framework that focused on her comfort and my survival: ‘Walking Victoriously Through the Long Goodbye,” grew out of a foundational belief that pain is inevitable but misery is optional,” he continues.

Andrew Poulos was born in April 1936 in Korischades, Greece where he lived with his six sisters and parents. When his father tragically died in Greece’s civil war, Andrew felt the responsibility to provide for his family even though still a teenager. As Greece was suffering economically from both WWII and the civil war, he decided to move to Thomasville, Georgia where he already had relatives to find work.

Andrew’s cousins owned a restaurant called The Plaza, and he started work as a pot washer and occasionally a server. He eventually began training as a chef, and by 1958, when he was just 22 years old, Andrew was made an official partner of The Plaza with his cousins. With the money he earned, Andrew was able to send dowry money to his six sisters so that they could all have their own homes.

In 2007, The Plaza was sold, but Andrew continued to work there full-time as a chef. When COVID hit, he stepped down to a part-time position doing prep work and baking desserts. This upcoming September, Andrew will have been working at The Plaza for 70 years!

Dr. Thomas (Tom) Reynolds was born in 1933 in Indiana, but he moved to Thomasville, GA after attending the University of Kentucky, receiving his medical degree to become an OBGYN. When deciding where he wanted to practice, Dr. Reynolds wanted to be in a city large enough to support his practice but small enough to feel like a country town. He started his practice in Thomasville in 1970 and served the community until he retired in 2004.

Dr. Reynolds figures he has delivered over 3000 babies throughout his career and many of the residents and team members at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor recognize him as the doctor who delivered their children or grandchildren. Legacy Village’s Dining Services Director, Kathy Dailey, reflects on how influential Dr. Reynolds was during childbirth with her son. He was Kathy’s physician during one of the happiest times of her life as she was nearing the delivery date of her precious baby boy. When the time arrived and the baby was coming, Kathy describes a sudden numb feeling in her feet. She knew something was wrong. The numbness began traveling up her body, and the moment it reached her upper body, Kathy coded on the delivery table. Despite being a rare situation, Dr. Reynolds and his nurses rushed into action, knowing exactly what was happening. While attempting to sustain Kathy’s life, Dr. Reynolds performed an emergency C-section. Kathy suffered from an amniotic fluid embolism, and despite being in an extremely difficult and risky situation, Dr. Reynolds was able to save both Kathy and her baby boy’s life, thanks to his quick and knowledgeable care. Throughout the years, Kathy and Dr. Reynolds have remained in touch, calling him her “Hero” and him calling her his “Angel,” and baby Joseph, who is now 34 years old, has a family of his own.

He has been a resident through the day stay program at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor for two and a half years. Kathy, as well as many others at Plantation Manor, are deeply honored to now be able to help care for him in return.

Thomasville, Ga. (May 2025) — A Legacy Village at Plantation Manor team member, Precious Lurry, has been named the 2024 ‘Going the Extra Mile Legacy Champion’, a highly distinguished award that is chosen by the Legacy Senior Living leadership team once a year. Legacy Senior Living is the management company of Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, which operates a family of senior living communities throughout the Eastern United States.

The Legacy Champion award is the highest team member recognition and the culminating award in Legacy’s ‘Going the Extra Mile’ customer service program. The team member is selected out of over 1,000 employees company-wide. Every month, each of the Legacy Senior Living communities individually review nominations and select a monthly winner who is awarded $250. At the end of the year, each Legacy community compiles the monthly winners and chooses an annual winner, who is given $500. The Legacy communities then submit their annual winner to the home office, who votes on the company-wide Legacy Champion, and awards them $1000 in front of their co-workers, residents and family members. This year, two team members were selected; Lurry and Billie Baird of Legacy Village of Cleveland, TN. The program encourages residents, family members and co-workers to nominate team members who have excelled in going above and beyond in serving their residents.

The Going the Extra Mile program is a distinguishing hallmark of Legacy Senior Living. The program, created by Co-Founders, Barry Ray and Bryan Cook, is founded on the Bible scripture in Matthew 5:41: “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” Legacy Senior Living prides themselves on being a faith-based and service-oriented company.

Lurry primarily works in the assisted living neighborhood but is beloved by both the assisted living and memory care residents. She goes above and beyond in providing exceptional care and is always sharing smiles and love with everyone. Lurry has been known to help residents by purchasing hair products, linens and other necessities for residents in need. She will often stay past her shift to help residents with their hair when the hairdresser is unavailable. Last November, Lurry brought flowers to a resident’s grave to celebrate him on Veteran’s Day. Additionally, Lurry can often be found helping in different departments when they are short-handed and giving co-workers rides home.

           Life, Love and Legacy’.

She helps our residents enjoy their golden years by valuing them and always providing the best possible care. I am proud to have her as a caregiver at Legacy Village,” said Lateshia Rooks, Resident Services Director at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor.

They conduct training through in-person sessions at each facility every 6-7 months to accommodate new hires and foster ongoing development. To reinforce key principles, SERVE posters are displayed in team member areas, serving as daily reminders of the commitment to excellence. Recertification is required every 12-18 months to uphold the highest standards.

Dr. Ronald Harvard has come aboard as the Director of Alzheimer’s Support Services. As a pastor, counselor, college professor and primary caregiver to his late wife, Linda, who suffered from Alzheimer’s for 20 years, Dr. Harvard brings many years of experience to this new program. At various times, Dr. Harvard has served his alma mater, Lee University, as a faculty member in the psychology department, as Director of Counseling, and as an adjunct faculty member at Lee Online. He and Linda also served as senior pastor at churches in Florida, Indiana, and Georgia.

With degrees in Biblical Studies, Social Psychology, and Pastoral Counseling, Dr. Harvard’s love for teaching and counseling have defined his life, but no more so than the love of his life, Linda, and their four children.

Dr. Harvard’s introduction to Alzheimer’s was personal and very painful. In the fall of 2003, Dr. Harvard recognized the beginning signs of memory loss in his late wife, Linda. Fifteen years later, Linda became a resident of a Legacy Senior Living community, The Harbor at Legacy Village of Cleveland. In May of 2023, Linda passed away. Dr. Harvard chronicled his struggles and victories in his blog, “Dementia: walking victoriously through the ‘Long Goodbye,’” offering lessons learned, meditations, and comfort to many.

“What became clear to me during the process of loving Linda through the battle of Alzheimer’s, was that I was being prepared to minister to families going through similar situations. My mission in leading this new Alzheimer’s Support Service is to provide behavioral insights, practical direction and comfort through support groups and one-on-one meetings,” said Dr. Harvard.

“This is a program that we are so excited to offer to families that are struggling with the challenges of memory loss. We are eager to welcome Dr. Harvard to this position as he supports other family members and caregivers navigating this overwhelming season,” said Barry Ray, CEO and Co-Founder of Legacy Senior Living.

Remodeled and relicensed, Legacy Village at Planation Manor is ready to serve Thomas County, Ga. in their enhanced capacity.

Thomasville, Ga. (April 2023) — Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, a member of the Legacy Senior Living family of premier assisted living and memory care communities located throughout the eastern United States, has recently undergone the process of relicensing from a personal care home to an assisted living facility. The change has enabled Legacy Village at Plantation Manor to better serve senior members of the community by increasing their ability to meet a wider variety of needs.

Legacy Village, now an assisted living facility, is able to provide a higher level of care for those who need daily access to licensed nursing and greater assistance in tasks such as bathing and dressing. Legacy Village is committed to providing such quality care while maintaining a sense of community by offering many opportunities for social involvement.

While now offering assisted living care, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor also has a well-established memory care facility called The Harbor. The Harbor is a state-of-the-art memory care neighborhood that provides specialized care in a unique environment. Developed after years of research and planning alongside notable experts in the field of dementia, The Harbor includes an overall theme, design, and furniture which all reflect the 1950’s era that is reminiscent of resident’s younger days.

In addition to being relicensed, Legacy Village at Planation Manor also completed extensive renovations to the property to enhance the overall aesthetics of the community. Aligning with Legacy Senior Living’s high standard for quality and comfortable living, dining, and socializing environments, Legacy Village received freshly painted walls, new lighting and furniture. New décor was also added that reflects the history of Thomasville, which might remind residents of their younger years growing up in Thomasville.

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (December 5, 2020) – To honor their residents who have spent their lives contributing to the growth and success of their families, communities and nation, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, is joining multiple sister facilities across the Southeast in telling stories of love and life passed down by their residents who have celebrated over 100 birthdays.

“Especially as the year 2020 has thrown new challenges our way, we are turning to some of our residents who have lived full, enriching lives for advice and inspiration on topics like relationships, serving your country in the military, and yes, even pandemics,” said Bryan Cook, Founder and President of Legacy Senior Living, which operates Legacy Village at Plantation Manor. “We are immensely grateful to them for letting us share in their struggles, their celebrations, and all of life’s moments that have shaped them into who they are over their 100-plus years,” he added.

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (October 23, 2020) – In fulfilling the commitment to promote good health, mental stimulation, and social engagement for its residents during the pandemic, Legacy Village at Plantation Manor and its sister facilities across the Southeast have teamed up with Lee University to enroll 250 seniors in a virtual arts learning program hosted by Artist-in-Residence Maestro Bob Bernhardt.

In weekly webinars streamed every Friday in October, Maestro Bernhardt, artist-in-residence at Lee University and Principal Pops Conductor of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, explores and discusses pieces of music from the middle ages to modern-day and dives into how they can ignite emotions in listeners.

Titled “Pandemic Playlist,” these virtual classes feature Maestro Bernhardt talking about and playing excerpts from classical and film music that has helped him navigate these uncharted waters. Each online session features the music of reflection, gratitude, joy, and triumph, the music of all kinds that both soothes and enriches the spirit.

“Before the pandemic, the residents of the Legacy Village at Plantation Manor enjoyed going on field trips and outings. COVID-19 and the precautions our facility has taken in light of the pandemic have made us think outside the box when it comes to engaging activities for our residents that are interesting, fulfilling, and safe. The Lee University Encore program has been so great for the residents at Legacy Senior Living’s network of facilities. It offers fun, creativity, and a treat for the senses in the form of Maestro Bernhardt’s music discussion,” said Deidre Yates, Executive Director for Legacy Village at Plantation Manor.

“Programs like this are much more than a leisure activity for our residents. This type of engagement is a very positive factor in promoting good health for seniors. The social and cognitive engagement help keep their minds working and staying sharp, which is of course essential in the aging process,” said Barry Ray, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Senior Living, which manages Legacy Village at Plantation Manor.

Of the approximately 500 students enrolled in the Encore program this semester, 250 are residents of Legacy Village at Plantation Manor and its sister facilities across the Legacy Senior Living network in five Southeastern states. Legacy Senior Living has covered the $25 enrollment fee for each resident who wished to enroll.

“Lee University has done an outstanding job of adapting to virtual programming during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’re beyond grateful for the opportunity to provide our residents with this enriching experience in the arts,” said Yates.

Each student, including Legacy Village at Plantation Manor enrollees, will have the opportunity to participate in a graduation ceremony in November to celebrate the knowledge gained throughout the course.
