Lillie Faye King’s story begins in the quiet streets of Thomasville, where she grew up surrounded by family—her mother, father, and three brothers, including her twin, Ray. Though time has taken her oldest brother and Ray, their memories live on in the heart of this remarkable woman. Faye’s early days were spent attending Fletcherville Elementary (now Harper Elementary) and later graduating from Thomasville High School in 1963. Her thirst for learning carried her to Birdwood Junior College, now Thomas University, where she graduated in 1965.
Just days after graduation, Faye married Don King, the love of her life. Together, they’ve shared over 60 years of marriage, building a family filled with warmth and laughter. Their son Bryant, along with his wife Amy, has blessed them with two grandsons, Will and Thomas. Their daughter Julie and her husband Johnny Eaton have two sons as well—Taylor and Mason—adding to a family that spans generations.
Faye’s journey took a pause as she devoted herself to raising her children and setting a foundation for their futures. Once they were settled in school, she returned to her passion for teaching. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Valdosta State University and began shaping young minds as a third-grade teacher at Jerger Elementary in Thomasville.
Encouraged by her principal, Mrs. Lucille Burgess, Faye pursued further education while continuing to teach. Nights and summers were spent at Valdosta State as she earned her master’s degree in education, followed by a master’s in education administration. This dedication opened new doors, leading her to serve as assistant principal at McIntyre Middle School, and eventually, as principal of Jerger Elementary. She held that role with heart and grace until her retirement in 2005.
Faye’s devotion extended beyond the classroom. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, deeply rooted in Dawson Street Baptist Church. Here, she shared her gift for teaching in Sunday School, led an adult ladies class, and extended compassion through a jail ministry for women in Thomas County. Her love of music brought her voice to the church choir, where her spirit touched many. Through teaching and faith, Faye led countless souls toward hope and love.
Retirement marked the start of a new adventure. Alongside Don, Faye explored the beauty of the nation they had always called home. From the rugged peaks of Grand Teton National Park (often just called the Tetons) to the wild landscapes of Alaska and the sun-kissed shores of Hawaii, their travels spanned every state and countless national parks—Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Glacier, Yosemite, Arches National Park, and more. Along the way, Faye’s warmth and kindness forged friendships that continue to thrive, a true reflection of a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
Lillie Faye King’s story is one of love, dedication, and faith—a legacy woven into the lives she has touched and the communities she has served. Now a cherished resident of Legacy Village at Plantation Manor, her journey continues to inspire those around her, reminding us all of the power of family, service, and the joy found in every new horizon.
